Human Connection (+ let’s meet?)

Over the years, I’ve really fallen in love with the ability to share and connect with you through my social channels. Never before has it been easier and faster to create, share, and connect. In a digital age where it’s possible to live in our own little bubble, it can often feel technology is better at isolating us than connecting. What I’ve found though, is the opposite. I can think of the countless names I’ve seen in my feeds for years, and now with platforms like instagram (add me here), I can not only share my thoughts, ideas, and happenings 1-to-many, but we can chat 1:1 — almost in real-time. It’s like having the internet on my speed dial. On a trip to London, half-way across the world, many of you asked to meet up while I was there — so within a few hours of landing, we were able to find a place, invite whoever wanted/could come via all my social channels to meet at a small local pub. While I will always advocate being present in the moment and with those around you, digital actually does do a great job of connecting us too. Instagram in particular has […]

Top 3 Things ALL Graduates Should Be Thinking About Right Now

Listen to the Podcast Congrats! You did it – you’re graduating! Big ups on all the hard work and long hours. But here’s the scary part. Graduation is the first day of the rest of your life. Last week by far the most popular question I saw in my social feed was around graduation. Either YOU were graduating, your friends or sons / daughters–and, naturally, there was a lot of concern. Generally you asked what I’d tell new graduates in a time like this … So that’s what today’s #chasejarvisRAW is all about. Whether you are a twenty-something just about to enter the job market or you know someone who is “graduating” to a new career, whether it’s photography or any other creative / entrepreneurial discipline … here are my TOP 3 THINGS GRADUATES NEED TO BE THINKING ABOUT. Thing 1: Be Great At Your Craft Learning doesn’t end when you’re no longer in the classroom. This might be seem like an obvious thing, yet so many people leave school and forget that they need to be great at their skill and instead get consumed by the myriad of OTHER things surrounding a career, such as building a website, getting […]

Stop Planning. Start Doing. And here’s how.

Here’s an important reminder:  you’ll never feel ready to start.  But you’ve got to do it anyway. And the operative word there is “do.” Just start. This episode is the kick in the ass you need.  Too often we get bogged down in the dreaming, the research, and the preparing – without the DOING.  Feel me on this?  It’s a common excuse that most of use…that we just need a little more planning…  Wrong. This is not to say that planning isn’t necessary, just that it shouldn’t be the crutch that prevents you from executing.  And for most it is. Let’s change that. If you’ve ever felt stuck – or heck – you’re feeling stuck now, this episode is for you.  We talk about the right balance between the planning and executing in a way that will get the results you want. Take a quick listen, and then get back to work. 🙂 Enjoy! Listen to the Podcast   Watch the Episode This podcast is brought to you by CreativeLive. The Dirtiest Secret in Photography

I’m often asked: where I get my inspiration from, how to stand out? AND why I’m sharing less BTS videos of my photo shoots? Well….glad you asked. Because in today’s episode of #cjRAW, I answer those questions specifically….but wanted to do something a little bit different. A little stripped down. Straight talk. Heart to heart — just you and me. In fact, in this episode, I reveal the dirtiest secret in photography. Truth is: the most game-changing ideas come from influences outside our industry. But don’t fret. There isn’t something “wrong” with photography. This is true in EVERY industry. Just think about it for a second. In photography, we spend a lot of time talking about photography, right? Shop talk, gear talk, lighting talk, client talk and then there’s the talk about all those “other” photographers. That’s all well and …er…good, but it’s circular conversation. Very rarely – if ever – do new ideas form amidst it. If you want to… CHANGE THE GAME. If you want to… BE DIFFERENT. If you want to… STAND OUT, you must go beyond this circle. The best things in photography come from outside the industry. Listen to the Podcast   Watch the Episode […]
